Faculty Profile - David Nugent (Conferencing)

Image of InstructorDavid Nugent, an anthropology professor at Emory, recently used ECIT's videoconferencing abilities to engage students with scholars from institutions around the world on issues of sustainability. This integrated approach provides masters level students with the unique opportunity to learn from some of the leading experts in the field of sustainable development, while engaging in an interactive, cross-institutional learning experience.

Each week an expert in a specific field of sustainable development (e.g., energy, agriculture, water, etc.) lectures to students in multiple classrooms. Innovative technology developed by the Earth Institute at Columbia University made it possible to establish a learning community of truly global proportions. In addition to interacting live with the guest lecturer, students from all the universities had the opportunity to interact with and learn from one another.

Emory students who participated raved about the class and the facilities at ECIT. They were excited to interact with recognized experts from around the world in the field of development. The also enjoyed learning about the perspectives of students from all over the world.
